SCOTTISH BLETHERS
Hosts | Liz Lister and Helen Houston
In Scotland, when friends get together they blether. When those friends happen to be Scottish Blue Badge Tourist Guides you can be sure that the country they are so passionate about will be right at the heart of their discussions.
Contemporary and historical; culinary and cultural; reminiscence and anecdote - from accommodation to zoos, the chat will range across the entire alphabet of topics and issues that are live and happening in Scotland right now.
We hope that you’ll join us - there’s nothing to beat a right good blether!

SB | Episode 58: Witchcraft
This week is Halloween and we are joined by Susan to reflect on the origins of many of the traditions associated with this time of year. Satanic panic spread across Europe during the 15th to 17th centuries and in Scotland, nearly 4000 individuals, the majority of them women, were accused, tortured, tried and in some of the cases executed as hysteria took grip. We explore some of the factors that contributed to this environment of suspicion and blame and remember some of the women that suffered at the hands of their accusers - including the King himself.
SB | Episode 9: Breid, deid & use yer heid !
Join Liz, Helen and Susan in their weekly Scottish Blethers podcast. In Episode 7, we find out more about Andrew Carnegie and his philanthropic legacy in Scotland as well as discuss clay pigeon shooting and The Glorious 12th (of August), a key date in the Scottish Game shooting calendar. Words of the episode - teuchter, ye canny whack it and keek - with a wee added bonus word at the end !
