The first hotels and restaurants in Spain date back to the eleventh century. The first “tourists'' visiting Spain were the pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. But tourism, as we know it today, started in Spain in the late 1950´s once General Franco understood that it was a great way to do some political propaganda.
