Sonic Sundays | Perotá Chingó
Perotá Chingó is an independent Argentinian duo of Julia Ortiz and Dolores Aguirre, plus percussionist Martín Dacosta and producer Pocho Alvarez. Perotá Chingó incorporates lots of different styles and genres into their songs, but their interesting harmonies are what give them a signature, unmistakable sound. The difference between their first and latest album demonstrates their wide range: from folky to blues to electronic and everything in between.
They credit much of their success to their social networks and followers, as well as a video of their song “Rie Chinito” that went viral in 2011. Since then, they’ve independently recorded and toured extensively in Latin America and Europe.
This band smoothly traverses the boundaries between genre and style, all while keeping their unique vocals and harmonies. The laid-back, casual vibe they bring to their videos and songs makes Perotá Chingó’s music great to listen to on a warm day or while relaxing.
“Ines” is a folky bluesy song that really shows off Aguirre and Ortiz’s harmonies and vocal range. The video rendition of “Certo” is from Berlin, and the building roof they’re singing on is used as percussion. “Toca” is one of the songs from the band’s third and most recent album, and the music video features a cool modern dance. “Anhelando Iruya” is an ode to a beautiful small town in northern Argentina called Iruya.
